ACA Renews Accreditation for G4S Services at Tennessee Detention Center
7 November 2011
G4S Youth Services facility remains the first and only juvenile detention center in Tennessee to earn and maintain ACA accreditation
The American Correctional Association (ACA) recently renewed its accreditation of the Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center. Operated by G4S Youth Services since 2004, the center is the first and only juvenile detention center accredited by ACA in the state of Tennessee.
In order to receive ACA accreditation, a facility must pass 29 mandatory standards and pass 90 percent of 388 additional non-mandatory standards. The ACA requires re-accreditation every three years. According to the recent ACA re-accreditation audit, Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center scored 100 percent on all mandatory standards and 98 percent on non-mandatory standards. The center scored 100 percent on non-mandatory standards directly under the control of G4S Youth Services.
Located in Nashville, the Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center’s primary mission is to provide temporary, safe and secure holding for juveniles awaiting legal adjudication. The center serves both male and female pre-trial juveniles with a capacity to house 86 youth. On average, the center processes 550 juveniles each month with approximately 280 of those youth detained.
“I’m proud of this accomplishment and recognize the hard work from all staff that was necessary for re-accreditation,” said Judge Betty Adams Green of the Juvenile Court of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County.
Helping Troubled Youth
In addition to temporary holding, G4S Youth Services provides additional opportunities to help troubled youth become healthy and productive members of society upon release. Services include education, nutrition, recreation, behavior management, medical treatment, counseling, case management and religious services. In addition, Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center staff work in the community to proactively support at-risk youth.
“The G4S Youth Services team is dedicated to delivering the highest quality of care to the children in our facilities, and I am extremely proud of our staff at Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center,” said Jim Hill, president of G4S Youth Services. “As the first and only juvenile detention center in Tennessee to achieve ACA accreditation, this achievement shows our dedication to delivering the highest quality service to the youth in our care and promoting public safety.”
