G4S' Secure Trax platform enhances security team's capabilities
Weingarten Realty owns and develops over 400 shopping centers in the United States across 23 states most of which are large, open-air complexes.
Managing such widespread locations has presented many challenges not least because the locations cover three time zones.
This caused issues for Weingarten particularly regarding their security incident reporting system, which was primarily a paper-based system. This meant that often non-urgent incident reports were not processed quickly enough to reach senior management in time.
Weingarten turned to G4S, who had been their main security provider for nearly 10 years, to develop a way of speeding up the transmission of information.
G4S began to develop Secure Trax, its state-of-the-art security management enterprise software platform, using customized personal digital assistants. Weingarten agreed to be its test bed for this technology and spent three years working with G4S testing the technology, refining and improving along the way until it was rolled out to customers.
The result was a system which far exceeded the initial demands of Weingarten and has developed into technology which incorporates GPS, a camera, e-mail functionality, text messaging and a panic alarm, as well as the data reporting.
As Bill Strother, Director of corporate security for Weingarten says “in case you haven’t noticed I’m passionate about Secure Trax” having played a key part in its development from conception to completion.
