G4S Technology to design and construct Montana fiber-optic networkOctober 10 2011
G4S on board to improve healthcare information exchange, education and public safety for the great state of Montana
G4S Technology LLC (formerly Adesta) a systems integrator and project management company for communication networks and electronic security systems, has been selected to design and install a 90-mile portion of a fiber-optic network for Health Information Exchange of Montana (HIEM). This $3.3 million project began in August 2011 and is expected to be completed by August 2012.
G4S Technology will design and construct 90 miles of both aerial and underground fiber spanning from Libby to Kalispell, Montana, in the Northwest region of the state. The goal of this phase is to establish a high-speed broadband connection from Kalispell to Libby for healthcare and healthcare education purposes.
The Health Information Exchange of Montana (HIEM) is a rural health network initiated by five independently owned and operated hospitals and two federally funded community health centers. These entities have formally come together to address their shared unique geographic and technological challenges in order to exchange basic patient medical information and expand telehealth applications in Northwest and Northcentral Montana. A significant part of HIEM’s efforts are focused on addressing access to affordable, reliable bandwidth to support their collaborative endeavors.
“G4S Technology is honored to be part of the venture to improve the way healthcare information is being shared in the state of Montana,” said Bob Sommerfeld, President of G4S Technology. “We believe this network will not only improve the way that information is shared, but will also advance the way that healthcare is administered, and will streamline both education and public safety for the residents of these communities.”
“HIEM is pleased to have the opportunity to improve the broadband infrastructure for healthcare and healthcare education providers in our region through financial assistance of the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Health Care Pilot Program,” said Kip Smith, HIEM Executive Director. “We look forward to working with G4S Technology, an industry leader in fiber optic construction, to further our vision of a robust healthcare broadband network in Northwest and Northcentral Montana.”
