2009 community initiatives
From building bikes for local kids in need to walking to raise breast cancer awareness to donating blood to save lives, G4S employees found many ways to offer help in 2009!
Boys & Girls Club of the Gulf Coast (2009):
During a sales meeting in early December in Biloxi, G4S Secure Solutions sales and ops team members competed in a “dream” building event that gives back to local kids. All team members competed to complete challenging puzzles in order to earn cash and build a new bicycle.
At the end of the event each team donated their bike, a helmet, and a bike lock to a child from the Boys & Girls Club of the Gulf Coast. Everyone was a winner when the local kids walked in and saw their new bikes -- just in time for the holidays!
Philippines Typhoon Relief Drive (2009):
G4S Compliance & Investigations donated more than 70 lbs of goods.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Akron, Ohio (2009):
The G4S Secure Solutions team in Cleveland raised over $500 for the event in Akron, Ohio in October.
InterAct of Raleigh, North Carolina (2009 & 2011):
G4S Compliance & Investigations employees have donated over 14 large bags of business clothing in both 2009 and 2011. InterAct is a private, nonprofit United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault.
Blood Donation Program (2009-2010):
G4S Technology employees are encouraged to donate blood through their local Red Cross office during the months of July and December (which are high demand months for blood and blood products).
Retired Police Officers Council “Love Fund” (2009):
G4S Secure Solutions (f/k/a Wackenhut) donated to the organization's "Love Fund", which aids retired officers who are facing financial or medical hardships, or who have been affected by disasters.
Laura's Home in Ohio (2009):
G4S Secure Solutions Security Officers in Cleveland collected blankets to donate to Laura's Home, a women's crisis center that serves women and children who are homeless or facing other crises.
U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program (2009):
G4S Secure Solutions Security Officers and support team at the Broward Health Protective Services Department held a drive to collect toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program. The security teams from Broward General Medical Center, North Broward Medical Center, Imperial Point Medical Center, Coral Springs Medical Center, and 7th Avenue Family Health Center donated more than $850 for toys.
Cookies, Cupcakes and Presents in Oklahoma City (2009):
G4S Secure Solutions Security Officers and support staff in Oklahoma City spread a little cheer for local boys and girls during the holidays. The team collected toys and presented the wrapped gifts during a special party at the local office where the kids and their families enjoyed cookies, cupcakes and punch.
The First Tee Greater Miami Valley, North Carolina (2008-2009):
G4S Compliance & Investigations donated $5,000. First Tee strives to positively impact the lives of young people in Butler and Warren counties in North Carolina.
Bowie, Arizona Community Center (2008-2009):
Every day G4S Secure Solutions buses drive past Bowie, Arizona, a struggling small town. Jobs are scarce, and many of the residents fall below the national poverty level. In addition to providing local jobs, the Tucson team has supported local charities.
During the August “back-to-school” drive, backpacks and school supplies were distributed to 95 students, with additional materials going to the school and teachers. For the holidays, the security officers and support staff have donated food, clothes, and toys to the Rural ACCENT Community Center and Food Bank. Eight turkeys and four hams were donated so the center could provide holiday dinners to families in need.
