Holiday Season – Drinking and Driving

  • 04 Dec 2017 15:42

If you are planning a night out during this holiday season, it should involve a plan for getting home without getting behind the wheel impaired.

Road Map to Safety

Holiday Drinking

While drunk driving deaths are down nearly 22 percent over the past decade, we can’t pause for a moment in our fight against drunk driving; we have to keep getting the word out about its dangers.

Below are a few simple tips to stay safe:

  • Plan a safe way to get home before you attend a holiday party. Alcohol impairs judgment, as well as reaction time. If you’re impaired you’re more likely to choose to drive drunk.
  • Designate a sober driver; take public transportation, a car service, or a call a sober friend of family member to get home.
  • Walking while impaired can be just as dangerous as drunk driving. Designate a sober friend to walk you home.
  • If you see someone you think is about to drive while impaired, take their keys and help them get home safely.

Remember, a person caught drinking and driving could face jail time, fines, loss of driver’s license, towing fees, and other DUI expenses, totaling $10,000 on average.

There are also applications that can be downloaded to your mobile phone regardless of what type of phone you carry. It will help you pinpoint your location and call a taxi or a friend to pick you up. An example of one app which can be downloaded for free is called “SaferRide”. It is available for Android and IOS based devices created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Here’s wishing you and yours a joyous holiday season from everyone here at G4S.

Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe over the holidays.
